With films, we also have the option of allowing the viewers to choose between language versions. The best way to do this is to have different versions of the same film with captions in the desired language. In this way, the participant can choose the captions in their preferred language and continue to listen to the speaker. Captions have the advantage of allowing the speaker to comment and his comments interpreted, while the captions are in the viewers preferred language.
One of the challenges connected with providing interpreting services during a meeting is to have slides or documents that are translated available according to the participants choice. Ideally each participant should be able to select the language that they want to listen in, speak in the language they choose and watch the presentation in the language of their choice. Can this be done? Yes. Depending on the platform you use, this can be done either within the platform like ZOOM or MS Teams or by using an external application that allows you to open the presentation from a file and then follow it yourself. Some companies prefer to ask participants to download and print a translation of the presentation; however in some cases, this takes the participants attention away from the main screen. Ask your event organizer how you can present translations of presentations while attendees or participants listen to the interpretation in their preferred language.
